I’ve written a book that I’d like to share with the world. It’s bonkers to even say that out loud. But how did things even get here?
I’ve spent several years working in large organizations, building, launching, promoting products and services.. In that world, there is a prevalent narrative, a spoken desire for doing new and different things and being “original.”
In reality, however, I’d spend a great deal of time making improvements and doing incremental things, not chase the shiny, bold, and innovative stuff. As someone with a restless streak, that often felt hollow. And my AI therapist could only help so much.
I also seemed to find myself in rooms full of folks afraid to think out of the box, too qualified, too focused to stray off course. I was often one of them—too invested in being right to risk being interesting.
Toeing the line at all times will eventually burn your toes.
I learned that change starts with how you think.. If you’re thinking only linearly, leaving no room for creative improvisation or exploration, no safe space to experiment, and no appetite for failure, then such an environment becomes antithetical to innovation.
I started writing about it, because that’s how I process things—and until I do, I usually don’t. I began exploring possible means for implementing my odd ideas. There are more ways to creatively advance than the known, linear path, I learned; there’s more to it than the same old-same old. Perspective changes everything.
And a great lens through which to do that, I found in artist Pablo Picasso's work. Because he arguably epitomized mold-breaking thinking. Picasso—a man who treated other people's breakthroughs as a well-stocked pantry—turned out to be the ideal teacher.
So I use his mindset and his method as a template to present to you this project that has been a long time coming (several blogs, newsletter editions, talks, workshops, conversations, coffees, a TEDx talk, and over a decade in tech)—my first book.
I'm publishing it myself (meaning no publisher, no real marketing budget) and am seeking your help!
